Brennan’s Bar Sketches

Brennan's Validates

Sketching at Brennan’s Bar and Hoffbrau in Berkeley is always fun. When we met there for Tuesday night sketching last month Cathy had just returned from her sketching workshop that was held at Disneyworld in Florida so the first part of the evening was her amazing show and tell. You can see her Disneyworld sketches on our Urban Sketchers blog here and here and Micaela’s Brennan’s sketches are here.

If you’re unfamiliar with the term “muffin-top,” it’s the bulge protruding above the belt from wearing too-tight jeans, especially widespread [pun intended] a few years ago when fashion dictated ever lower waistlines on pants with shorter tops).

This was my first sketch of what I saw in front of me, just trying to do something simple to warm up before tackling more complicated stuff.

Thank you dear Jana for showing us your sketches and generously displaying the rest.
My Sunday, despite a foggy day,is alive and joyful!

LOL @ Libby. Me too! :) Jana, these are terrific. The warm-up sketch is especially appealing for its simplicity and rock-solid composition. Might make a nice painting!

I treasure your blog posts even more now that they aren’t so frequent!!!

  5. Jana Cortez says:

Love your drawings. We used to stop there (to eat) on our way home from San Francisco to Sacramento.

I like that you did a warm up sketch. I think I should start doing that since I always jump straight in and get mixed results on the first sketch. Especially when drawing people. I start with the head and when I’m not warmed up, it will be larger or smaller than the rest.
