Beauty Parlor Still Life

This was my view while I was getting my hair cut on Friday. The beautiful peonies were an apology gift to my hairdresser from one of her clients. I don’t know what the client had done wrong but I thought the combination of the scissors, hairbrush and flowers made an interesting still life.
I’m going to be in a painting workshop all week with Camille Przewodek in Petaluma and may not have a chance to post until I return. It should be an exciting and intense week of painting. It’s also a vacation from work (whoopee) and I intend to enjoy every moment!

Jana, this is simply lovely. I imagine those peonies smelled delightful. Mine, the plain pink sort, are just leafing out, and seem slow this year, but we’ll see. As much as I like your more involved painting, your sketches appeal to me too.
This is beautiful, Jana. Glad you’ve got fun stuff coming up, will be looking forward to hearing what you learned…and seeing “stuff”. Have a GREAT vacation!
These flowers are gorgeous! Love the loose wash. Nicely done.
Flowers always add to any setting, Lovely soft shading of colors. And the Scissors etc are right on - Did you sketch on site?? Very determined artist if you did
Have a fun week.

Yes yes
Well you really do make beautiful art everywhere you go, don’t you? I seem to have to be in the right mood, and have all the right materials, and then — if I don’t freeze up in fear of getting it wrong — sometimes I get lucky.
Very nicely done. Gorgeous, in fact. Thank you so much for sharing your work. It’s truly inspiring.
This is delightful, just lovely. Have a great and inspiring vacation/workshop. We’ll be thinking of you and waiting to hear all about it!
Oh, I thought you got out your jar of water, paints and did it on the spot and the hairdresser got mixed up and painted your hair or mixed up gels etc. and had a real good time! Very nice picture. You get the shapes etc. without fiddling detail.

Beautiful still life - the color is gorgeous. Enjoy your workshop, Jana!
Ooooh, oooh, oooh…. I wish I were going to the same workshop, Jana. I’m such a big fan of Camille’s. Have a fabulous time! Come back and show us what you learned. Please?
Love love LOVE the colours!
I’ve often thought there are lots of interesting set-ups at the beauty salon. This made me smile! Of course all your posts are wonderful and I learn so much while visiting here! I have been so very busy with life the past few months…my figure class consumming me…isn’t that wonderful? But I do stop by often to visit and finally with a nice long weekend upon me…I hae time to say’ hello my friend.’
Such a great drawing! Oh Jana, you know I got to see the original painting of Luncheon of the Boating Party at the Phillips gallery in D.C. a couple weeks ago. What an amazing experience.
Mmmmm. Classic Jana.
